Independent Roofing Systems was selected to replace the aging roof of the Milsaps Hall Activities Center in the heart of Milsaps College’s Jackson, MS campus. The 2023 summer-scheduled project required quick execution and precise coordination due to the unique shape of the building and the complexity of the insulation taper system.

Challenge / Objective
The shape of the building and its drainage needs demanded a creative taper insulation strategy. The team also had a narrow window to complete the work during summer break, avoiding interference with the academic calendar or campus activities.
Key project actions included:
- Installed a new 3-ply modified bitumen system
- Customized a tricky tapered insulation layout for proper drainage
- Installed new edge metal and coping
- Removed and sealed wall penetrations
Solution
Independent Roofing executed a fast-tracked schedule, completing a set number of squares per day to stay on pace. The existing roof and metal coping were fully removed and replaced. Crews also removed old wall fans and sealed penetrations with metal panels to maintain weatherproofing and aesthetics.
