Independent Roofing Systems was selected to replace the aging and storm-damaged roofs across five buildings at Copiah Academy in Gallman, Mississippi. With over 76,000 square feet of roof area to cover, the work was carefully scheduled and executed over the summer break to ensure full project completion before the 2024 school year began. The result was a high-performance, low-maintenance TPO roof system — completed on time, under safe working conditions, and awarded a 2024 Merit Award for excellence in execution.

The existing single-ply roofing system had reached the end of its life and was compromised from previous storm events. Challenges included:

  • Coordinating roof replacements across five distinct buildings 
  • Managing tight seasonal deadlines to avoid interference with the school year 
  • Removing multiple layers of aged materials down to tectum roof decking 
  • Maintaining safety and access control during on-site summer programs

Solution

Independent Roofing deployed multiple crews to ensure the full scope was completed within a 10-week window. The solution included:

  • Full tear-off of existing roofing down to the deck 
  • Installation of tapered polyiso insulation and gypsum coverboard 
  • Fully adhered 060 TPO membrane across main structures 
  • Induction-welded TPO system on Gym and Cafeteria retrofit sections 
  • Fabrication and installation of 2,600+ linear feet of edge metal, gutters, and downspouts 
  • Coordination with school administration to avoid disruption during camps and summer events
